| 20th ‘Maiden of the Mournes' Contest
2nd – 9th August 2009 The ‘Maiden of the Mournes’ Contest is a personality competition for single young ladies between the ages of 18 and 25 from any nationality. Competitors are expected to make their own way to Warrenpoint. Whilst there all meals and accommodation will be provided free for the week. The competitors will be asked to take part in a variety of PR activities which may include visiting local shops, shopping centres and the local Council Offices. They may also visit the City Hall in Belfast where they will meet the Lord Mayor and possibly be interviewed on TV. They will be taken on a tour of the Mourne Mountains and visit a typical cottage dating back to the last century where they will sample Irish food and music and be asked to join in the entertainment. Each competitor will be interviewed individually by a panel of independent judges and be interviewed on stage by a TV personality. Here they will be expected to perform a party piece - singing, dancing, reciting etc. The winning maiden will receive a cheque for £500 on the final night and another cheque for £500 when she returns the following year to hand over her crown. She will also be expected to carry out PR duties during her reign. This may be in Ireland or in her own country.
